Decidim, meaning “let's decide in Catalan, is a free, open-source digital platform for participatory democracy. The method is designed to support democratic self-organisation at different scales by combining participation tools such as consultations, assemblies, participatory budgeting, and strategic planning into one coherent system. A core principle of Decidim is trust in democratic processes, which is ensured through transparency, traceability of contributions, and clear visibility of how proposals move from discussion to decision and implementation.

To use Decidim, an organisation or community sets up a participatory space such as a process, assembly, or consultation and configures it according to its decision-making needs. Participants are then invited to take part by submitting proposals, commenting, supporting ideas, and engaging in discussions that can evolve through defined phases from ideation to voting and follow-up. Throughout the process, users can track how inputs are handled and see the status of proposals. The platform can be adapted to different contexts, from local community initiatives to large-scale public governance, allowing facilitators to design flexible yet structured participation workflows that support meaningful collective decision-making.
